While weight loss can include reduced weight from stored carbs, protein, water, and fat, fat loss includes only weight loss from fat. Fat loss typically occurs at a slower rate. If you’re like most people, you may be eager to know when you can expect to see results after embarking on your weight loss journey.

Does fat loss cause weight loss?

Fat loss may — or may not — result in weight loss, depending on what else is happening in your body. For instance, if you’re adding muscle through strength training as you are losing body fat, your weight may stay the same or even go up (if you, say, lose 1 lb of fat but add 2 lbs of muscle). Is losing body fat healthier than losing weight?

Losing body fat is generally healthier than losing weight overall, since weight includes lean body mass. To make it happen, aim for a total weight loss of just a pound or so per week by trimming your calories, not crash dieting, eating plenty of protein, and prioritizing strength training when it’s time to work out.

Are We really good at losing fat?

But here’s the problem — collectively, we’re not very good at losing fat either. Even modern advancements in obesity treatment (e.g., bariatric surgery, medication, etc) have a success rate of less than 10% for permanent weight reduction/management.

Does reducing body fat help you lose weight?

Reducing your total body fat not only helps you lose weight, but also can have significant improvements on your health. Lowered risk of heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and sleep apnea are just a few benefits of losing excess fat....

Why should you carry a lower body fat?

Fat cells can act as endocrine factories and produce hormones that influence numerous processes in the body — most of which lead to more fat accumulation. Beyond the health of it all, carrying a lower body fat is often considered more attractive and desirable as the underlying musculature is revealed.
