Ovidrel FAQ

What is Ovidrel used for?

Written by Cerner Multum. What is HCG? Ovidrel is a hormone that is used to cause ovulation and to treat infertility in women. Ovidrel is not effective in women with primary ovarian failure. HCG is used in men to treat hypogonadism, a condition in which the body doesn't produce enough testosterone.

What is Ovitrelle®/Ovidrel®?

Ovitrelle®/Ovidrel® is a recombinant human chorionic gonadotropin available as pre-filled pens for triggering final follicular maturation and luteinisation.

What is Ovidrel made of?

Ovidrel is composed of recombinant human chorionic gonadotropin (r-hCG). Recombinant fertility drugs are made in a laboratory using DNA technology. They are molecularly similar to hormones made by the body. In the case of r-hCG, the lab-made hormone is similar to the body's natural luteinizing hormone (LH).

Does Ovidrel have any side effects?

Most people who take Ovidrel do not experience any significant side effects beyond local discomfort at the injection point. In clinical trials of Ovidrel, one in three people using the medication for IVF treatment experienced at least one side effect.
