What does the Andrology Laboratory do?
The Andrology laboratory is part of the Department of Reproductive Medicine and deals with semen analysis, retrograde examination, post vasectomy checks and sperm cryopreservation By attending the Andrology department for your pre-arranged appointment, your consent to the analysis of the specimen is presumed.
What is an andrology unit?
Our andrology unit manages patients with andrological conditions including male sterilisation and infertility service, and other disorders of the penis or male genitalia. Our patients are referred to us from throughout the United Kingdom and we are one of the largest andrology units in Europe.
What is andrology & how does it work?
Andrology is the branch of Reproductive Science focusing on male sexual health. Typically, staff work within a Fertility Centre alongside Embryologists, Clinicians and Nurses. This may be in an NHS hospital or Private clinic setting. The role has a mixture of direct contact with patients and laboratory work.
What is andrology urology?
Andrology is a subsection of Urology which deals with problems affecting the male reproductive system. These conditions may present as emergencies or through our outpatient clinics. We currently have an experienced team of 4 consultants and a senior specialist Andrology nurse with over 15 years of experience.
What is the Andrology Laboratory Service?
The Andrology Laboratory Service is part of the Diagnostic Cytology Department within Laboratory Medicine at York Hospital and is accredited by UKAS to ISO:15189. It is where samples are processed for fertility and post vasectomy analysis. The service is for patients from the York and Scarborough areas.
What is the regional Andrology Service (RAS)?
The Regional Andrology Service (RAS) is a fertility investigation service and part of the Regional Fertility Centre (RFC). We offer semen analysis for patients across Northern Ireland. You can download the Regional Andrology Service User Manual.
How do I get a semen analysis from a GP?
All GP requests for semen analysis should be processed using the electronic CCG referral system. This ensures requests are sent directly to the Regional Andrology Service for processing. For guidance on the CCG referral pathway, refer to the NHS GP website. Select Royal Victoria Hospital / gynaecology – fertility semen analysis.
