What are overall health and well-being measures?
Overall Health and Well-Being Measures (OHMs) are broad, global outcome measures intended to assess the Healthy People 2030 vision. OHMs can be used to summarize and evaluate progress toward achieving Healthy People objectives.
What is the definition of Health?
The current WHO definition of health, formulated in 1948, describes health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” 1 At that time this formulation was groundbreaking because of its breadth and ambition.

It provides a single value for health that can show how health changes over time. Healthy People: covers health outcomes such as life expectancy, physical health conditions like dementia, cancer and kidney disease, disability, personal well-being and mental health.
When will Health Index data be released?
The current release covers 2015 to 2019 so presents health in England before the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. We plan to release Health Index data for 2020 later this year. 3. Health in England in 2019 Figure 1 shows health in England in 2019, using Health Index scores. All scores are relative to the 2015 baseline of 100.
How many indicators are in the Health Index?
The Health Index is comprised of 56 indicators, summarised into 14 subdomains, 3 domains and then an overall score for each geographical area. The results presented here are for the overall Health Index and three domains. A score of 100 means health is equal to England's health in 2015.
What is a healthy person?
Healthy People: covers health outcomes such as life expectancy, physical health conditions like dementia, cancer and kidney disease, disability, personal well-being and mental health. Healthy Lives: covers health-related behaviours and personal circumstances including obesity, hypertension, drug misuse, smoking and cancer screening.
