ICSI Fertility Treatment - What You Need to Know
ICSI FAQ
What is the difference between ICSI & IVF?
Pronounced ick-see IVF, ICSI stands for intracytoplasmic sperm injection. During regular IVF, many sperm are placed together with an egg, in hopes that one of the sperm will enter and fertilize the egg on its own. With ICSI-IVF, the embryologist takes a single sperm and injects it directly into an egg.
What is an example of ICSI?
For example, some cases of infertility are due to the sperm of a male partner not being able to penetrate the outer part of the egg to fertilise the egg. The major development of ICSI means that as long as some sperm can be obtained (even in very low numbers), fertilisation is possible. Is ICSI for me? ICSI is often recommended if:
What is ICSI & how does it work?
ICSI is an additional IVF technique where a single sperm is injected into an egg. Today, it's the world's favoured fertilisation method for all types of IVF.
What is intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)?
Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is an infertility treatment. It involves injecting live sperm into a person’s eggs in a laboratory. This procedure can create an embryo (fertilized egg). ICSI is a form of in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Can ICSI help if I have problems with sperm?
ICSI can help if your fertility struggles are linked to problems with sperm. It is very similar to IVF, but instead of mixing sperm and the egg to fertilise, an embryologist will select one sperm and inject it directly into the egg prior to implantation. We may decide to use ICSI if we believe sperm is unlikely to fertilise the egg naturally.
