Erleada (apalutamide) is a brand-name drug that’s prescribed for certain types of prostate cancer in adults. Erleada comes as a tablet that’s typically taken once per day. Erleada belongs to a drug class called androgen receptor inhibitors. Erleada is not available in a generic version. Specifically, Erleada is approved to treat adults with:

Does Erleada treat prostate cancer?

If you have prostate cancer, your doctor may suggest treatment with Erleada. It’s a prescription drug that’s used in adults with certain kinds of prostate cancer. Prostate cancer affects the prostate, which is a small gland located under the bladder in males.* To learn more about the drug’s uses, see the “ What is Erleada used for? ” section below.

Is Erleada a chemotherapy drug?

No, Erleada isn’t a chemotherapy drug. It’s a kind of hormone therapy that works by reducing the levels of androgen hormones, including testosterone, in your body. In comparison, chemotherapy drugs work by attacking cells in your body that grow rapidly. This includes cancer cells, but it also includes healthy that are rapidly growing.

YOU’D SEE THE DAY. What is ERLEADA ® ? ERLEADA ® is a prescription medicine used to treat two types of prostate cancer: Prostate cancer that HAS SPREAD to other parts of the body and STILL responds to a medical or surgical treatment that lowers testosterone.

What is Erleada ® (apalutamide)?

ERLEADA ® (apalutamide) is an androgen receptor inhibitor indicated for the treatment of patients with non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC) and for the treatment of patients with metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC).

Does Erleada have a paediatric requirement for advanced prostate cancer?

The European Medicines Agency has waived the obligation to submit the results of studies with Erleada in all subsets of the paediatric population in advanced prostate cancer. See section 4.2 for information on paediatric use.

Does Erleada ® cause cerebrovascular events?

In the TITAN study, cerebrovascular events occurred in 1.9% of patients treated with ERLEADA ® and 2.1% of patients treated with placebo. Across the SPARTAN and TITAN studies, 3 patients (0.2%) treated with ERLEADA ®, and 2 patients (0.2%) treated with placebo died from a cerebrovascular event.
