What is the Arctic front cardiac cryoablation catheter family?

The Arctic Front Cardiac Cryoablation Catheter Family is indicated for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. The cryoballoon has been used to treat over half a million patients in more than 60 countries worldwide. 1

How does a cryoablation catheter work?

The liquid refrigerant travels in an ultra-fine tube through the coaxial umbilical and the shaft of the cryoablation catheter to the tip of the catheter. The liquid refrigerant vaporizes as it is sprayed into the tip. As it vaporizes, it absorbs heat from the surrounding tissue, thereby cooling and freezing the target tissue.

What is a transvenous cryocatheter system?

The current transvenous cryocatheter system consists of a hollow shaft deflectable catheter with a closed distal end containing a cooling electrode tip, 3 proximal ring electrodes, and a proximal thermocouple. The catheter is connected to a specialized external console via an electric cable and gas umbilical tube.

What is a focal cryoablation catheter?

The Freezor Family Focal Cryoablation Catheters are used to ablate a broad range of cardiac arrhythmias - including AVNRT, accessory pathways, atrial flutter, AFib, AT and VT. The CryoConsole houses the components and software needed to perform cryoablation procedures.

How does a CryoCath system work?

With permission. Standard ablation with the CryoCath system consists of advancing a steerable quadripolar catheter to the region of interest. The ablation target is identified with mapping techniques similar to RF ablation procedures. Once the target is identified, the operator may select between cryomapping and cryoablation modes.

What is a cryoablation catheter?

The cryoablation catheter is a 7F steerable multipolar catheter similar in appearance and handling characteristics to a standard radiofrequency ablation catheter, though its mode of action is quite different. Pressurized liquid nitrous oxide is delivered to the tip of the catheter from the cryoconsole through an ultra-fine, robust injection tube.

Are steerable percutaneous cryocatheters available?

Although cryoenergy has been used in modern surgical procedures for more than 50 years, the development of steerable percutaneous cryocatheters represents a more recent landmark in the history of clinical cardiac electrophysiology. This review examines the current state of knowledge regarding cryothermal catheter ablation.

What is a cryoconsole?

It controls the delivery, recovery, and disposal of cryoablation refrigerant safely and efficiently. The CryoConsole encompasses the electrical and mechanical components and proprietary software for controlling a cryotherapy procedure with the Arctic Front Advance and Freezor MAX catheters.
